| The historic Roman city of Bath lies a hundred miles west of our great capital. It has been a tourist destination since the days of the Roman Empire. It is a location unique for its hot springs, Roman Baths, medieval heritage and Georgian architecture. Sitting in the glorious Somerset countryside it was granted city status and Royal Charter in 1590 by Queen Elizabeth I. The city became a World Heritage site in 1987.

|
Bath, named Aquae Sulis by the Romans, was based on three naturally occurring hot springs sacred to the Celtic god Sulis. The remains of the vast collection of Roman baths and temples can still be seen today. It wasn't until the 18th century that these Roman remains were re-discovered, and it sparked Baths revival as a luxury resort.

Edgar King of England was crowned in Bath Abbey in 973AD, and the prosperity of Bath surged in medieval times under the watchful eye of the infamous Bishop of Bath and Wells. In Elizabethan times it regained notoriety as a Spa, and in the Georgian period became the height of fashion with its Neo-Classical architecture.

Built in 1806 Bath Lodge sits in 4 acres, as a proud miniature version of Farleigh Castle which itself dates back to 987 AD. The castle is mentioned in the Doomsday book of 1086, and was the residence of George, Duke of Clarence, and brother of Edward IV. English Heritage now owns the castle, and it can be visited throughout the year.
